Dzata Cement has set its sights on becoming Ghana’s number-one cement manufacturing company by 2030 as it enters a new phase of expansion and operational growth.

The company’s Finance Director, Godfred Barnes, said the ambition would be driven by sustained investment, expanded distribution, dependable production, improved customer service and tighter cost management.

Speaking as Dzata Cement marks its fifth anniversary, Mr Barnes said the company had built resilience through significant operational and financial pressures, including supply-chain disruptions, freight costs, inflation, foreign exchange pressures and other challenges affecting the manufacturing sector.

He said the next five years would focus on strengthening the company’s capacity and efficiency while ensuring that every department contributes to its long-term sustainability.

“We want to become Ghana’s number-one cement manufacturing company by 2030,” he said.

The company is also preparing for a major expansion of its production and storage infrastructure as part of its growth strategy.

Plant Director Abderrahim Ouahab said Dzata Cement plans to increase its cement storage capacity to 40,000 tonnes and introduce an automated packing facility capable of handling about 6,000 tonnes of cement per day.

The company also plans to install a 300-tonne-per-hour Multi Big Bag Receiver as part of the expansion.

In the longer term, Dzata Cement is targeting annual production capacity of about three million tonnes.

The company is also looking to expand its cement portfolio by adding new grades and potentially introducing a 25kg bag, while strengthening its laboratory, health and safety systems and employee training.

Mr Ouahab said the company would also pursue ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications, improve spare-parts and inventory management, and explore the use of artificial intelligence and digital tools to enhance operations.

Dzata Cement currently has an estimated production capacity of about 80,000 bags per day, equivalent to roughly two million tonnes annually.

The company, established by Ghanaian entrepreneur Ibrahim Mahama, has invested more than US$100 million in its cement manufacturing operations near the Tema Port.

As Dzata Cement marks five years of operations, the company is also expected to produce its 30 millionth bag of cement, underscoring the scale of its growth since commencing operations.

Mr Barnes said the company’s ambitions extend beyond cement manufacturing, with plans eventually to explore ready-mixed concrete and other related products.

The expansion agenda, he said, forms part of Dzata Cement’s broader effort to build a sustainable Ghanaian industrial enterprise capable of competing strongly within the local cement industry.
