The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has commissioned Aduamoah Girls’ Senior High School in the Kwahu East District to expand access to secondary education for girls in the Kwahu area.
The school, first ever public girls school in the kwahu area was officially commissioned on Friday, October 9, 2026, with an inaugural class of 10 students.
Speaking at the ceremony, Eastern Regional Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey described the establishment of the school as the fulfilment of a long-standing vision to improve educational opportunities for young people, particularly girls in the Kwahu Area.
The institution traces its origins to a private school established by Madam Kate Abankwa, a native of Kwahu-Aduamoah. However, the school collapsed following the introduction of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, which significantly changed the country’s secondary education landscape.
The Chiefs and people of Kwahu-Aduamoah, the Abankwa family and the Ghana Education Service (GES) collaborated to revive the school with additional facilities and has been absorbed by government .
The Regional Minister commended the stakeholders for their commitment and sustained advocacy, describing the development as an important step towards advancing education in the community and the wider Kwahu area.
She stressed the need to equip students with relevant knowledge, skills and values to contribute to national development, while urging the school to prioritise Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), entrepreneurship and digital skills.

Mrs. Awatey also called on the Kwahu Traditional Council, the District Assembly, the Education Directorate and residents to take ownership of the institution and support its continued growth.
She urged teachers and school authorities to promote academic excellence, discipline, innovation, leadership and integrity while nurturing the talents of every student.
The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr. Mrs. Ivy Asantewaa Owusu, said educating girls was fundamental to building the country’s future.
She described the new school as a demonstration of the potential that could be unlocked when opportunities were created for girls to pursue secondary education.

“Every classroom here is a future laboratory where life-saving discoveries will be made. Every desk is a future boardroom where groundbreaking decisions will be reached,” she said.
Dr. Ivy Asantewaa Owusu noted that the benefits of educating girls extend beyond individual achievement, explaining that educated women could help lift families out of poverty, improve public health, support vulnerable people and strengthen local economies.
She charged the pioneer students to embrace the opportunity and work towards breaking barriers in their academic and professional pursuits.
“This school was built for you, but its true architecture will be defined by you. Do not measure your worth by the barriers you encounter, but by the barriers you break,” she told the students.
