Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame has argued that social media has not created a new calibre of people but has rather amplified the personalities, creativity and contributions of individuals who existed long before the advent of digital platforms.
Speaking to Krakye on Rythymz One-on-One on GHOne TV, the award-winning musician said people had been making meaningful contributions to society long before social media became a dominant feature of public life.
“Social media didn’t create people; it simply exposed them. People lived, created and made an impact long before social media existed,” he said.
His comments highlight the role of social media in expanding the reach of individuals, allowing their personalities, ideas and work to reach audiences beyond their immediate communities.
While digital platforms have become important channels for visibility and public engagement, Okyeame Kwame maintained that the people using them and the contributions they make are not products of social media itself.
