A/R: Police arrest two suspects for illegal possession of 2,600 AK-47 bullets

Ashanti police intercepted a bus at Kantanso–Asankare, seizing 2,600 AK-47 bullets and arresting two suspects, Kwame Afram and Godfred Essel, who are assisting investigations.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has apprehended two men for the unlawful possession of 2,600 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and related military gear at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier.

The suspects, Kwame Afram, a bus driver, and Godfred Essel, his mate, were intercepted on 26th December 2025 while traveling on a Kia Granbird bus (registration GT 5771-18) from Accra to Walewale, en route to Paga.

According to the police in a statement, during a thorough search of the vehicle, officers discovered two concealed containers holding a total of 2,600 AK-47 rounds.

Further inspection revealed a bag hidden under the driver’s seat containing two bulletproof plates, a black crushed helmet, and a pair of long boots.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. The bus and all recovered items have been impounded as the police continue to investigate the case.
