The Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, has disclosed that new evidence suggests Kwabena Adu-Boahene poses a greater flight risk than initially assessed.
Speaking on State of Affairs with Joshua Kodjo Mensah, Dr. Srem-Sai revealed that the latest developments have influenced how authorities are handling the case.
According to him, the Attorney General had earlier directed Adu-Boahene’s release and subsequent rearrest based on new findings. However, he remains in custody as fresh discoveries raise concerns about his ability to evade prosecution.
“Last night, we received further briefing which suggests that he is actually more of a flight risk than our initial assessment,” Dr. Srem-Sai stated. He further revealed that Adu-Boahene possesses multiple Ghanaian passports and has the capability to acquire foreign nationalities, making it easier for him to move across borders.
“These days, with money, you can acquire nationalities. This new information has led us to exercise some restraint in how we proceed with the prosecution,” he added.
The Deputy Attorney-General emphasized that while investigations into the case have been ongoing for weeks, Adu-Boahene’s movements were unpredictable even before his arrival in Ghana.
“He is very fluid when it comes to moving across borders. Within the few weeks that we expected him to return to Ghana, he remained highly mobile,” Dr. Srem-Sai noted.
Given the circumstances, authorities deemed it necessary to take immediate action upon his entry into the country, ensuring his integration into the criminal justice system.
