AFCON Fiestarr Update: Uganda name 26 for camping

Head coach of the Cranes of Uganda Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic has trimmed his 30-man squad to 26 to face Tunisia on January 4 in Tunis and  their Dubai camping.

After two weeks of intense residential training at Paradise Fitness Gym, Bukoto and the IUIU Girls Campus in Kabojja, the team is set to travel now.

There are 26 players traveling from whom the final 23 man squad for AFCON 2017 will be selected.

Goalkeeper Ismail Watenga of Vipers is among the players who have been left in Kampala.

Swedish based defender Ronald Mukiibi who turns out for Östersunds FK fails to make the cut.

Winger Abdulmalick Vitalis Tabu and KCCA striker Derrick Nsibambi are the other two players on stand by.

While in Tunisia, they will be joined by four foreign based players; Robert Odongkara, William Luwagga Kizito, Geoffrey Kizito and the dancing winger Moses Oloya.

The Uganda Cranes open their AFCON campaign against Ghana Black Stars on 17th January 2017 in Port Gentil.

The travelling Uganda Cranes team to Tunisia and Dubai:

Goalkeepers: Dennis Onyango (Mamelodi Sundowns, South Africa), Robert Odongkara (St George, Ethiopia), Benjamin Ochan (KCCA, Uganda), Salim Jamal Magoola (El Meriekh, Sudan)

Defenders: Denis Iguma (Al Ahed, Lebanon), Nicholas Wadada (Vipers, Uganda), Joseph Ochaya (KCCA, Uganda), Shafiq Batambuze (Tusker, Kenya), Isaac Isinde (St George, Ethiopia), Timothy Awany (KCCA, Uganda), Murshid Juuko (Simba,Tanzania)

Midfielders: William Luwagga Kizito (Rio Ave, Portugal), Hassan Wasswa Mawanda (Vipers, Uganda), Muzamiru Mutyaba (KCCA, Uganda), Godfrey Walusimbi (Gor Mahia, Kenya), Tonny Mawejje (Thotur,Iceland), Aucho (Baroka FC, South Africa ), Mike Azira (Colorado Rapids, USA), Moses Oloya (Hanoi T and T) and Geoffrey Kizito
