The African Development Bank (AfDB), Bank of Ghana (BoG), Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and GCB Bank have been confirmed for the 2026 African Minerals Policy Forum – Mining in Motion (AMPF–MiM), scheduled for October 19 to 21 in Accra.

The forum will bring together African financiers, policymakers and regional project developers to explore ways to mobilise local capital for value addition and sustainable growth in the continent’s mining sector.

Under the theme, “One Continent. One Voice on Minerals. Aligning Africa’s Mineral Future,” AMPF–MiM 2026 aims to strengthen collaboration between financial institutions and project developers, align policy frameworks and establish clear requirements for making African mining projects bankable.

The African Development Bank is expected to highlight its support for local economic development, including funding approved for the Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining Formalisation for Peace and Security Project in Sierra Leone and Liberia.

The bank has also launched its Critical Minerals Insight Series to encourage investment in minerals needed for the energy transition.

A fireside chat with the AfDB’s Vice President, Prof. Kevin Chika Urama, will examine the bank’s investments and its strategy for regional cooperation to promote mining sector growth.

The Bank of Ghana will also highlight its role in supporting Ghana’s reserve accumulation and local value addition agenda through the 2026 Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Policy (GANRAP).

Governor Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama and First Deputy Governor Dr Zakari Mumuni are expected to outline the policy’s contribution to the country’s economic objectives and discuss strategies to develop innovative capital mobilisation mechanisms for the mining sector.

Meanwhile, the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) will showcase its investments in strategic mining and extractive industry assets.

These include a $40 million investment in Asante Gold, alongside project funding for Atlantic Lithium’s Ewoyaa project and the Ada Songhor Salt Project.

MIIF Chief Executive Officer Justina Nelson is expected to discuss how the fund is positioning its financial instruments to meet growing demand across Africa’s extractive industry.

GCB Bank will focus on financing mechanisms beyond traditional lending, drawing on its provision of approximately $8.1 million and $11.9 million in irrevocable bank guarantees in 2026 for Asante Gold’s Ghanaian operations.

The guarantees cover environmental obligations to Ghana’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

GCB Bank Chief Executive Officer Farihan Alhassan is expected to share insights into the bank’s plans to expand its support for mining projects across Africa.

Afreximbank President and Chairman of the Board, Dr George Elombi, will participate in a panel discussion titled “Financing Africa’s Mineral Future: From Exploration to Refining.”

The discussion will examine how African and international financial institutions can mobilise capital across the mineral value chain while promoting local ownership, value addition and industrialisation.

AMPF–MiM 2026 is expected to address financing constraints, accelerate mining project development and strengthen support for artisanal and small-scale miners, with the broader objective of ensuring that Africa’s mineral wealth contributes to sustainable, long-term economic growth across the continent.
