Isaac Kwaku Fokuo, curator of the Amahoro Coalition, has highlighted the growing displacement crisis in Africa, revealing that 45 million people on the continent currently have no place to call home. He spoke on GHToday with Joshua Kodjo Mensah on Friday, February 6, 2026.
Fokuo noted that over 100 million people worldwide are displaced due to conflicts in regions including Sudan, Congo, Ukraine, and Syria, stressing that young people are disproportionately affected. “The interesting thing about the conversation is that the people who are most affected by this are young people,” he said.
He linked the displacement issue to Africa’s demographic dividend, warning that without sufficient opportunities for youth, the continent’s development goals under Agenda 2063 may not be realised. “By 2050, one in four people will be African. We have a huge youth board, and we have to find ways for these young people to get jobs,” Fokuo explained.

Focusing on displaced Africans, he added: “45 million people from this continent have no place to call home. They can’t get work permits. They can’t work. They can’t go to school in some situations. They can’t have the rightful place in the countries to grow and lead. We’re not going to get the continent we want.”
Fokuo emphasised the need for targeted interventions to integrate displaced youth, describing the issue as “an acute problem” that must be addressed alongside other developmental efforts.
