The Office of the Former President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has refuted a recent newspaper report claiming he sought an audience with President John Dramani Mahama to secure “safe passage” for his cousin and former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the office described the report as “entirely false” and a “total fabrication.”
The publication suggested that Akufo-Addo was considering approaching President Mahama to intervene on Ofori-Atta’s behalf—a claim the former President’s office emphatically denies.
While acknowledging that Ofori-Atta’s situation is a personal concern due to his familial and professional ties, the statement emphasized that Akufo-Addo’s concern does not extend to interfering with the rule of law.
The office has also demanded that the offending publications issue a correction and reproduce this rejoinder in accordance with the former President’s rights.
