Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow over the military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 6, the former president described the incident as a national tragedy that has left the country “profoundly shocked and saddened.”
“I have spoken and extended my deepest condolences to the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, and to Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the NDC,” Akufo-Addo stated.

He also sympathized with the Ghana Air Force and the families of the deceased, acknowledging the sacrifices of the crew and public officials who died in the crash.
“I condole with our gallant men of the Ghana Airforce at this concerning time and salute their indispensable role in the public life of our country,” he added. “May they find peaceful rest in the Bosom of the Almighty, until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall all meet again.”
The crash occurred in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday morning. The Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter was en route from Accra to Obuasi when it lost radar contact. All eight individuals onboard were later confirmed dead.

The other victims are Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman, NDC; Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Pilot; Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, Co-pilot; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Crew member.
The incident has plunged the country into mourning, with national flags ordered to fly at half-mast until further notice.
