Vice President of IMANI Africa Selorm Brantie has described as unfortunate Prof. Joshua Alabi’s assertions that Ghana is yet not ready to be governed by young people.
“We still have not gotten to the level where we can leave the country in the hands of the younger ones.
“They have to be groomed. I don’t think I am too old to serve the country. In this country, we believe that 60 years is enough to serve a country but it is different in other parts of the world,” Prof Alabi opined Monday on Morning Starr with Francis Abban.
According to Prof. Alabi, who is one of the aspiring presidential candidates of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the young Ghanaian lacks the requisite skill and experience to lead the country.
Reacting to the comments of the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Mr. Brantie said: “It is incredible to think for somebody who has manned an institution of young people at an institution as progressive as the UPSA to think that even after all those years that he was handling that institution, he cannot pinpoint to a single person out of that institution who he believed has enough acumen to be able to run the country before the person is forty.”
He added: “It is great indictment if leaders of the current political landscape assume and believe that power and the ability to run this country only come as a function of age. It is an indictment on their own leadership capabilities, their own leadership philosophies, their own leadership style and their tolerance or ability to even understand different views and new paradigms.”
“So for me I believe it is a very unfortunate statement,” he further pointed out.
