The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced that all discrepancies in the 2024 Provisional Voter Register have been fully addressed. After conducting a detailed review over the past two weeks, the EC confirmed that any issues identified have been corrected, ensuring the electoral roll is now accurate and reliable.
The announcement follows concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which had earlier called for a forensic audit of the voter register. The NDC expressed doubts about the accuracy of the initial provisional register, citing possible errors that could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
Addressing the issue during a live broadcast at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa reassured the public of the Commission’s commitment to transparency and integrity. Mensa emphasized that the EC had worked diligently to rectify the errors, reinforcing its dedication to conducting free and fair elections.
“Over the last two weeks, we have spent our energies to clean the voter register and to ensure that the information presented is accurate,” said Mensa. “Simply put, we have worked to ensure that every applicant who registered in 2023/2024 is on the voter register.”
Mensa also announced that from October 15 to October 19, registered voters would have a second opportunity to review their details online and report any discrepancies at EC district offices. Additionally, she promised to provide hard drive copies of the voter register to all political parties, along with a template for registering any remaining concerns.
The EC’s efforts are seen as part of a broader commitment to ensuring credible elections in Ghana, with the Commission reiterating its focus on fairness and public confidence ahead of the 2024 general elections.
