The Executive Director at the African Center for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) Dr. Rasheed Draman has called on the Speaker of Parliament Mike Oquaye to allow the minority express their views freely on parliamentary issues.
According to Dr. Draman, even though the minority cannot have decisions on matters in their favour they should be given opportunity to express their opinions.
“All they [Minority] want is to simply have their say, they will not have their way particularly given the numbers that we currently have and whatever it is. I think the Rt. Hon. Speaker should give the minority the space to have their say in all deliberations in the house,” he told Accra based Class FM.
Dr. Draman’s comment follows threats by the Minority to impeach the Speaker of the House over claims of being bias.
The Minority in Parliament on Thursday July 27, 2017, abstained from ongoing deliberations in the House regarding the government’s planting for food and jobs program.
This was after the Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu was stopped from asking a follow-up question by the Speaker when the Agric minister appeared before the House for questioning.
