The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has confirmed the arrest of a suspect following the circulation of a viral video showing the abuse of a six-year-old child at Asamankese.
In a statement issued by its Public Affairs Unit, the Ministry said the case was promptly referred to the Ghana Police Service by the sector minister after the video surfaced online. The police have since arrested the suspect, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
MoGCSP noted that it is working closely with the Ghana Police Service and other relevant child protection agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and that justice is served in accordance with the law.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to safeguarding children and warned parents, guardians, and caregivers against the use of violent disciplinary methods, stressing that discipline must never result in physical harm to a child. It urged the public to adopt non-violent approaches to child upbringing.
Describing child protection as a shared responsibility, the Ministry called on families, communities, traditional and religious leaders, and the general public to help create a safe and caring environment for children.
