The Kibi District Magistrate Court on Tuesday remanded into prison custody the six accused persons in the murder case of a teacher at Asiakwa in the Eastern Region.

The accused persons—Richard Amaning, 18, Mireku Emmanuel, 19, Philip Kodie, 19, Offei Frimpong, 19, Ezekiel Boadu,20, and Evans Aboagye alias Otega, 19  – are facing charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and murder. They will reappear in Court on July 30, 2019.

Some of the accused persons coincidentally had their birthdays today.

Meanwhile, the defence Counsel, Peter Nimo has filed a bail application at the High Court which will be heard on July 5, 2019, as the lawyer for Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), James Agyeman Fokuo says the Association is following keenly the legal processes to ensure justice is served.

The Eastern Regional Secretary of GNAT, Daniel Afedu said the Association is using the case to send a strong signal to the public that the safety of teachers cannot be taken for granted and to end several years of community attack on teachers.

The family members of the deceased teacher also declared they will not relent on their efforts to seek justice regardless of the time it will take.

Charlotte Aduako Somuah, 18, the first child of the deceased teacher who was writing the WASSCE when the incident happened said she was only made known on June 4, 2019, after she wrote her last paper. She reiterated the call for justice to be served.

Scores of residents, the family of deceased and teachers thronged the court again on Tuesday.

Heavily present at the Court were also Municipal and some Regional Executives of GNAT as well as dozens of teachers from Asiakwa.

The deceased teacher, George Somuah Bosompem, was the steward of Methodist Church and a Religious and Moral Education as well as Twi teacher at Salvation Army Basic School.

Prosecutor Margaret Kuntoh on May 14, 2019 pleaded the Court to remand the accused to enable prosecution conduct further investigations into their birth records in their school to reconcile their real ages as the defence counsel, challenged the ages provided by prosecution stating that all the accused persons are below 18 years, therefore, the case must be tried at the Juvenile Court.

Again, the defence counsel previously pleaded alibi for two of the accused persons—Mireku Emmanuel and Philip Kodie stating that they were not present in the community during the incident.

The late 57-year-old George Somuah Bosompem described by many as affable and hardworking was married to Adwoa Asieduwaa. He had three Children; Charlotte Aduako Somuah, 18, Kwadwo Somuah Bosompem, 4, and Four-month-old Kwadwo Abrokwa Somuah.
