Former NPP National Chairman, Paul Afoko, has described the passing of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, as a devastating blow to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the people of Asanteman.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 11, 2025, Mr. Afoko said the loss of Otumfuo’s only surviving sister and traditional mother comes at a time when the Ashanti Kingdom is still mourning the death of two prominent chiefs and a linguist.
Reflecting on his personal connection to the Asantehene, Mr. Afoko said: “I have been a beneficiary of the great honour bestowed upon me by the Asantehene when he sent a high-level representation to my late father’s funeral in Sandema in the Upper East Region this year.”
He added: “I therefore join the queue of the numerous politicians, businessmen and women, the clergy, traditional rulers, imams and petitioners from all walks of life who have come to recognize what a gem this country has in the Asantehene.”
Offering words of comfort to the monarch in Twi, he said: “Nana Otumfuo, me ma wo due, due ne amanehunu. Due, Damirifa Due.”
