Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed has officially assumed office as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East following his victory in the recent by-election.
The swearing-in ceremony was held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the chamber of the Parliament of Ghana.
Administering the oath of office and allegiance, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin urged the new lawmaker to focus on his mandate of serving the people of Ayawaso East.
“During your campaign, you promised the people of Ayawaso East that you wanted to serve them as a Member of Parliament, and by doing so, serve Ghana. You don’t want to serve Ghana as a High Commissioner in Nigeria,” Speaker Bagbin said.
“I am going to hold you accountable to the good people of Ayawaso East. Serving them, you must.”
Baba Jamal, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), won the by-election with 10,884 votes, defeating his closest rival, Baba Ali, who garnered 4,009 votes.
Independent candidates Umar Sanda and David Kanor secured 1,885 and 107 votes respectively, while Ibrahim Idrissu of the LPG obtained 43 votes.
The by-election, held to fill the seat left vacant by the late Mahama Toure, recorded a total of 17,048 votes, with 120 rejected ballots across 113 polling stations
With his swearing-in complete, Baba Jamal is now charged with representing the interests of his constituents in Parliament and contributing to national legislative duties.
