Kobby Andah MD of BANK OF AFRICA Ghana has expressed commitment to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and has called on all corporate institutions and well-meaning Ghanaians to support the cause. He made the call at the just ended Breakfast Meeting for female CEOs and Business Executives at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel. That was the fourth edition of the annual event and was part of a three (3) day event scheduled to recognize, mentor and celebrate women.

BANK OF AFRICA Ghana partnered Glitz Africa to organise the ‘Ghana Women of the Year Honours’ which brought women together for networking, mentorship and the celebration of great and industrious women for having achieved successes by defying all odds.

The meeting brought together female corporate executives, entrepreneurs and politicians. The event was characterized by a lot of networking and deliberation on the theme ‘Facilitating gender parity in corporate Ghana’.

Gracing the event were the Chief of Staff Hon Frema Osei Opare as chairperson, the Second Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana, Mrs Elsie Addo Awadzi and the former first lady Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings. Also present at the event were the country representative of UNFPA, Mr. Niyi Ojuolape and the Special Advisor to the President on SDGs, Dr. Eugene Owusu amongst other dignitaries.

In expressing the Bank’s position on the SDGs, the MD said that BANK OF AFRICA Ghana in 2018, took a decision to align its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to four out of the 17 SDGs, which are (1) Good Health & Well-being, (2) Quality Education, (3) Gender Equality and (4) Clean Water & Sanitation. As an organization BOA believes that supporting, advocating and actually implementing initiatives along these 4 goals would be their contribution towards the actualization of the SDGs.

He again stated that BMCE BANK OF AFRICA Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility Charter defines 6 pledges which guides their practices and growth model as a committed Group.

He laid emphasis on the Charter which is articulated around these areas, Respect business ethics and the interests of our clients, Promote sustainable financing and social entrepreneurship, Be a responsible employer attentive to our employees and their development, Be diligent in the exercise of governance and risk management, Protect the environment, Act in the interest of communities and support dialogue with our stakeholders.

Kobby further stated that he was elated because as a Bank, their Corporate Social Responsibility is underpinned by the UN Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). Interestingly, the parent Bank, BMCE BANK OF AFRICA head quartered in Morocco, is among the leading Pan-African financial groups, with presence in more than thirty (30) countries in Africa, Europe and Asia, employing more than 14,800 staff. He continued that the Bank has made several commitments towards the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.

In recognition of the Bank’s commitment to CSR and its demonstration as a good corporate citizen, BMCE BANK OF AFRICA has been awarded honours as; ‘Top Performer, CSR Morocco 2017’ for the 4th consecutive year and a Winner for the 3rd consecutive year at the CSR Arabia Awards.

Climaxing the three (3) day event was an awards night at the Labadi Beach Hotel. Nine (9) distinguished women who have achieved laurels in their various fields of discipline were honoured for their massive contributions to the development of women.
