A leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Lawyer Kwame Jantuah has cautioned President John Dramani Mahama about the importance of carefully selecting individuals for key positions in his administration.
Speaking on GHOne TV with Lantam Papanko, Lawyer Jantuah emphasized that the success of Mahama’s governance would largely depend on the competence and commitment of the people he chooses to work with. “The most important thing now is the people he selects to steer the ship with him. If they don’t steer it properly, that is how we fall into a problem,” Jantuah said.
He further advised Mahama to be cautious when appointing individuals with presidential ambitions, warning that such individuals might prioritize their own political aspirations over their ministerial responsibilities. He suggested that some appointees might focus more on securing a presidential candidacy rather than fulfilling the duties assigned to them, which could hinder the effective functioning of the government.
“Anybody who has presidential ambitions to take over from him, he should be very mindful about putting them in his government. Because two years down the line, instead of doing the job they have been given, they will be thinking about how to win to become presidential candidates,” Jantuah cautioned.
Jantuah expressed hope that if President Mahama remains committed to his promises, the success of his administration would ultimately depend on both his ability to follow through and the performance of those he selects for leadership roles. “If he is able to stick to what he says he will do, fantastic. It is left with the operation. Let’s hope the operation and the people he chooses can do well,” Jantuah remarked.
