Two suspects declared wanted by the Northern Regional Police Command in connection with a shooting incident weeks ago in Bimbila have willingly turned in to police.
Police Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Kwasi Appiah confirmed to Starr News, fugitives Alhassan Hardi and Issah Alhassan surrendered to police with their lawyer Monday afternoon, January 29, 2017 at about 1335GMT.
Their lawyer Issah Mahmoud, according to Supt. Appiah, told police the suspects said they heard they were being sought after in the shooting event so decided to turn themselves in.
The two were implicated in the shooting incident that took place in Bimbila on 11th January this year at about 9.25pm.
In that armed assault, gunmen arrived on motorbikes and opened fire at a group of youngmen sitting under an opened pavilion near a police station in the town killing three at spot and injuring more than seven others.
The injured were rushed to hospitals across the region but Starr News understands death toll are now five following the deaths of two more.
Two were arrested in a dawn swoop day after the brutal attack suspectedly linked to the raging chieftaincy dispute but these two managed to escaped and entered into police wanted list.
The Crime Officer said the two were rearrested and put in custody pending further court arraignment.
“Caution statement have been taken from them so they are in detention now, tomorrow they would be arraigned before court for further actions”, Supt Appiah said. “The victims when they were at the hospital, some of them were able to talk, they mentioned those names.”
Economic activities in Bimbila have slowed drastically following a dawn to dusk curfew and the ban on riding pillion in and around the town by the state department in charge of internal security affair.
