The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, in partnership with the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly (TNMA), has handed over the Brahabobom Small-Town Water Supply System (STWSS) to the community.

The handover ceremony, held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Chosen Vessel Church International in Brahabobom, brought together traditional authorities, community members, representatives of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, officials of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) committee members and other stakeholders.

The ceremony marked the successful completion of the water infrastructure project and its transfer to the community for ownership and management.

The completed facility comprises a 40,000-litre water storage system, two mechanised boreholes and four standpipes, providing a sustainable source of potable water for households and the wider community.

Constructed at a total cost of GH¢616,858.39, the system is expected to improve access to potable water while reducing the burden associated with water collection.

The project will provide community members with improved access to safe water for drinking, cooking, sanitation and other domestic uses. The improved water supply is also expected to contribute to better health and hygiene as well as reduce the risk of water-related diseases.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief of Brahabobom, Nana Kwesi Ansah, underscored the challenges the community had faced due to the lack of potable water.

“Access to potable water has been a major challenge for our people, and this facility has come at a very important time. It will significantly improve access to safe water for drinking, cooking, sanitation and other domestic needs, while also contributing to improved health and hygiene in the community. We are grateful to the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly and all other stakeholders who contributed to making this project a reality.” He emphasised.

Nana Kwesi Ansah pledged the community’s commitment to taking ownership of the facility and ensuring its proper maintenance.

“As a community, we pledge to take ownership of the facility, use it responsibly and ensure that it is properly maintained for the benefit of present and future generations,” he underscored.

The initiative is expected to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders while promoting community participation in the sustainable management and maintenance of the water supply system.

The Brahabobom Small-Town Water Supply System feed into the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being, and SDG 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Through the project, the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to essential services and enhancing the quality of life of residents of its host communities.
