Prominent businesswoman Ms. Niharika Handa has instructed her legal counsel to initiate proceedings against several media outlets over what she describes as false and malicious publications targeting her business activities and personal life.
The disputed articles, published on September 10, 2025, allegedly contained multiple inaccuracies aimed at damaging Ms. Handa’s reputation and business interests.
She and her son have also raised concerns about personal security after their passport details and other sensitive information were published online, exposing them to risks of identity theft and endangering their safety.
Ms. Handa clarified that contrary to the false narratives circulated, she is the complainant—not the accused—in ongoing legal matters.
She has lodged both criminal and civil actions against Mr. Amar Deep Singh Hari for the alleged theft of precious minerals and other assets belonging to Gold Crest Refinery Limited, while also pursuing recovery of the stolen properties through civil litigation.
The pending cases include:
- Republic v. Amar Deep Singh Hari & Another (Criminal proceedings)
- Niharika Handa v. Amar Deep Singh Hari & Others (Civil proceedings)
Through her legal team, Ms. Handa has issued formal demands to the implicated outlets, requiring them to:
- Retract the defamatory publications immediately
- Remove the content from all platforms
- Issue an unqualified public apology
Legal demand notices have been served on Ghana Chronicles, Asaase Radio, News Ghana, and The Herald, with a 24-hour deadline for compliance.
Her counsel has cautioned that failure to comply will trigger immediate legal proceedings against all outlets involved in publishing or republishing the false information.
Ms. Handa has also stressed that she has no pending legal cases in any jurisdiction as alleged.
“Ms. Handa remains focused on pursuing justice through the proper legal channels,” said a spokesperson. “These false allegations appear timed to distract from the serious criminal and civil proceedings where she seeks accountability for alleged theft and misconduct.”
She further emphasized that her priority is ensuring accountability in the courts rather than being drawn into “public relations battles” aimed at deflecting attention from the substantive issues before the law.
Her legal team has also warned that any individuals or institutions sharing or redistributing the defamatory content may face liability for defamation.
They have urged media outlets and the public to verify information with official sources before publishing or circulating it.
