Renowned Ghanaian musician King Promise has weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding Black Stars’ team coach Otto Addo’s decision to drop veteran player Dede Ayew from the squad.
In a recent interview, the “CCTV” hitmaker expressed his thoughts on the matter, which has sparked widespread debate among football fans and analysts. He emphasized that the coach’s decision should be respected, regardless of public opinion.
King Promise, known for his passion for football and his support for the Black Stars, urged fans to trust the coach’s judgment.
Speaking to Bola Ray, he firmly stated, “Dede Ayew is still my captain, but at the end of the day, coach Otto Addo’s decision is his decision. Ghanaians should give the coach some time, he needs time to make it work.”
Otto Addo’s decision to exclude Dede Ayew, one of Ghana’s most iconic footballers, from the national team has been met with mixed reactions. While some fans and pundits have criticized the move, others have defended it, citing the need for fresh talent and strategic changes.
The decision to drop Dede Ayew comes at a crucial time for the Black Stars as they prepare for upcoming competitions. Coach Otto Addo has emphasized that dropping Andre Dede Ayew from the team was a very difficult decision but was one of the best decisions for the team.
He said this in his speech delivered at a Meet The Press event at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Headquarters where he announced his latest call ups.
The 26 man squad had stalwarts like Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, Lawrence Ati Zigi, Mohammed Kudus and Gideon Mensah named for upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic.
However, longstanding Black Stars captain Andre Ayew was not named in the squad despite starring for Le Havre in the French Ligue 1 and for Otto Addo, the decision to drop him was far from easy.
“I don’t talk about the players who are not in the squad, more about those who are in the squad. I talk to players directly I don’t like to give information out about what we spoke about. It was a difficult decision to be honest because I like him as a person and also as a player.”
