COMAC calls for investigation into Yass Petroleum, Moari Oil over fuel irregularities

The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies flags suspicious fuel distribution data in northern Ghana, giving the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) two weeks to act.

The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) is urging the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to investigate alleged fuel lifting irregularities involving two of its member companies, Yass Petroleum and Moari Oil.

According to COMAC’s latest half-year report, fuel distribution data revealed unusually high fuel distribution figures in the Upper East and Upper West regions, despite limited industrial or commercial activity in those areas.

Board Chairman of COMAC, Gabriel Kumi, described the development as deeply concerning, insisting that such anomalies warrant an immediate regulatory probe.

“What kind of economic activities happen in the Upper East and West for such high demand and consumption?” Mr. Kumi asked during an interview with Tutuwaa Danso on Starr Today. “We call on our regulator, the NPA, to commence investigations and apply the necessary sanctions. We cannot sit as an industry and allow these irregularities to go unpunished.”

COMAC maintains that the NPA has the necessary tools and capacity to investigate and resolve the issue, citing its nationwide petroleum product tracking system.

“The NPA tracks every truck that loads petroleum in Ghana. If we analyze the tracking system data, I don’t believe we’ll find such volumes going to the Upper East and West.” Kumi stated. “We trust in the leadership of our colleague, NPA CEO Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, but he cannot be praised as effective if he fails to act on these findings,”

The Chamber has issued a two-week ultimatum to the NPA to respond to the anomalies.

“We have given the NPA two weeks to respond. After that, we will advise ourselves as industry players,” Mr. Kumi warned.

Meanwhile, COMAC has summoned the management teams of Yass Petroleum and Moari Oil for further engagement and clarification.

The Chamber said swift action was necessary to safeguard transparency, prevent market distortion, and preserve public confidence in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
