Special Committee investigating the chaos that engulfed the sitting of the Appointments Committee has concluded its work.
This is despite demand by the minority for proceedings of the committee to be halted.
According to a memo signed by minority leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the committee must await a directive from the speaker following a petition for the chairman to be removed on the basis of bias.
However, relating to the matter at the commencement of proceedings today, chairman for the committee Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah rubbished the demand of the minority indicating there’s no directive from the speaker for proceedings to be halted.
The committee then went ahead to take testimonies from MP for Tano South Charles Asiedu who explained his involvement in the chaos was to ensure the vetting proceeded given the number of dignitaries who had traveled from far to support the nominees.
Majority Chief Whip and MP for South Dayi Rockson Nelson-Dafeamekpor during his testimony refuted claims he got physical with Gushegu MP Alhassan Tampuli. According to him, his involvement was rather to restore calm.
Other witnesses including a private businessman who was involved in the chaos took turns to recount what transpired.
Chairman of the committee Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah after discharging the last witness Collins Dauda announced the invited minority witnesses and the clerk of Parliament Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror failed to appear.
The Ho West MP however assured the committee will put together its report and present it to the speaker regardless.
