The Asona Royal family of Jamasi Tabre in the Sekyere South District of the Ashanti region has reached out to a hundred and twenty homes (120) whose livelihoods have been adversely affected by the imposition of COVID 19 restrictions.
The relief items that were distributed included cooking oil, bags of rice, sardines, drinks and sanitizers valued at some GHc11, 000.
The intervention was mobilized by the collective efforts of natives of the Agona traditional stool living in Kumasi in response to an urgent call for the aged and vulnerable persons in dire need, to be assisted.
The leader of the delegation Afia Mprenwo popularly known in Tabre as Osonomaame noted that as the president Nana Akufo Addo takes steps to help mitigate the effects of COVID 19 on the economy, her group living in the cities also felt the need to take a cue to also ensure that their natives back home do not slip into abject poverty because of reduced remittances.
She admonished that even though Jamasi Tabre has not recorded a case, the town folk most of whom are rural farmers, adhere to sanitary measures and social distancing to keep any incidence of the virus from festering.
Receiving the items, a spokesperson for the Asona royal family of Agona Tabre Isaac Kwaku Amoakohene commended the benefactors for their spirited gesture to the town.
He outlined that the palace has already drawn up a targeted plan to distribute the food items to a hundred and twenty households and hand out the sanitizers to all food venders who could be conduits for the virus through exchanging of physical cash.
