Government has given 5, 000 PPE to various media organisations including the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association, Ghana Journalist Association, National Media Commission, Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana and leadership of state-owned media to be distributed to frontline media persons in the country.
The President on April 24 addressed the leadership of the aforementioned organisations at the Jubilee House at his invitation as part of efforts of his government to consult all identifiable groups in the country on the way forward with regard to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Representatives of these bodies on the same day requested that the President supported the media with PPE for frontline media staff.
Today, May 5 Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah announced at the ministry’s press briefing that the president had heeded to the call with the provision of the PPE.
He said, “the package will be delivered to GIBA, GJA, PRIMPAG, NMC and the leadership of state-owned media for onward distribution to those who they consider frontline media workers since they are best placed to identify them.”
“Government is hopeful that this will augment your supplies and assist you as you rise to this national call at this moment”.
“Deputy Information Minister Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei will be dong that presentation hopefully later today,” he added.
COVID-19 cases in Ghana have seen a staggering jump from 2,169 to 2,719 within two days as of yesterday May 4.
This means 550 more cases have been recorded since Saturday when the last update was made.
According to the Ghana Health Service, the Greater Accra region still leads with over 2000 cases.
