Perez Chapel International has joined the list of churches which are not opening despite the relaxation of restrictions on religious gatherings by President Akufo-Addo.
The Agyinasare-led church joins the likes of ICGC, Maker’s House and a few others who have publicly stated they will not open up for worship despite the review of the presidential directive.
In a statement, Perez said it “wishes to inform its members and the general public that as a follow-up to the speech given by the President of the Republic, HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday, 31 May 2020 on the guidelines for the partial opening of churches, the Perez Dome, Dzorwulu, will remain closed for church service until further notice.”
The statement said the church will continue its virtual worshipping as has been the practice since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Ghana.
Meanwhile, a professor at the University of Ghana Kodjo Sena has urged Christians and Muslims in the country to stay home and worship from there despite the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions on religious activities by President Akufo-Addo.
According to him, the church and mosques could become avenues for the spread of the deadly coronavirus if care is not taken.
“People should stay at home, wherever you are you can pray and God will listen. We don’t want the mosque and churches to be another avenue for coronavirus spread. We don’t need to congregate for God to listen. God will listen to you anywhere,” he told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Tuesday.
