Did Dr. Bawumia snub Otumfuo’s Heal KATH to donate GHc500k to Black Stars – Kojo Marfo’s take

Kojo Marfo, host of AbusuaFM’s AbusuaNkommo, has criticized Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party and Vice President of Ghana, for not prioritizing the need to visit the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital during his three- day camping tour in the Ashanti Region.

According to the seasoned morning show host, he doesn’t have a problem with the Vice President donating Ghc500,000 to the Black Stars, but he wonders why he prioritized the Black Stars over the development of the facility.

“We are told that Dr. Bawumia gave the Black Stars team GHS 500,000 ahead of their game.

“So, Dr. Bawumia came to the region and gifted GHS 500,000 to people who do not need it. However, the hospital, which is the responsibility of him and his government to renovate, has been neglected. He couldn’t go there to assess the situation to donate towards it” he averred.

He further acknowledged that the Blackstar’s players, who were gifted the unwanted Ghc500,000 by Dr Bawumia, visited the hospital to see the deplorable state of the facility and to support the HealKomfoAnokye Project.

He emphasized,” The Vice President dashed the BlackStar players money, even though the game they played was fully funded by the state. Even their per diems were fully borne by the state.”

“However, when the boys heard that Otumfuo was soliciting funds to renovate KATH, they went there to see the current state of the facility in order to support and be ambassadors for the project,” he commended.

Sending a word of caution to the handlers of Dr. Bawumia, he insisted, “Those who are managing the Vice President should manage him very well.

“The Vice President came to the Ashanti Region for a three-day visit without visiting the hospital to assess the situation. We were told he had donated towards the HealKomfoAnokye Project, but it turned out to be false.”

The only extent to which the Vice President showed concern was an answer he gave the Ashanti Regional President of the Ghana Medical Association about plans to commission the Afari and Sewua Hospitals in August, to reduce congestion at KATH.

Kojo Marfo’s comments have sparked controversy, with many questioning Dr. Bawumia’s priorities and commitment towards critical matters at the heart of development in the Ashanti region.
