President John Dramani Mahama says government will introduce blockchain technology to digitise records at the Lands Registry as part of reforms aimed at improving land administration and curbing fraud.
He said Ghana continues to face persistent challenges in land transactions, including delays in processing documents and widespread cases of double sales, particularly involving family and stool lands.
Speaking with the Ghanaian diaspora community in Lusaka, Zambia, on Wednesday, February 4, Mahama noted that many land buyers also fail to conduct proper searches before purchasing property.

“And a lot of times, people who go to buy lands don’t even go back to the Lands Commission to make a search,” he said.
He explained that the digitisation process, supported by blockchain, will make it easier for buyers to verify ownership and trace the history of land transactions.

“Once we’ve digitized the records… they will have the record of the land from where it has passed to who and who owns it currently,” he stated.

The President further disclosed that a government committee has already submitted a report on the status of public lands across the country, leading to the cancellation of several leases that were still being processed.
