An expert in DNA procedures and protocols at the DNA Diagnostic Centre in Accra has said the planned test on the bodies that have been discovered in connection with investigations into the missing Takoradi girls could take a month to produce results.
According to Olivia Asare, the condition and environmental factors under which the bodies were kept will play an important role in getting DNA results.
” The earliest this could take will be about four weeks. A lot of factors come to play in getting a DNA result. For instance how the bodies were kept, the environmental factors that existed in the septic tank and even how they were retrieved,” she told Francis Abban Monday on the Morning Starr.
An operation carried out by a team of police personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters and the Western Regional police Command in an uncompleted building at Kansawrodo near the Methodist Senior High School girls hotel where the first accused Samuel Wills was living discovered the bodies.
The three girls Ruthlove Quayson, Priscilla Blessing Bentum and Priscilla Koranchie were kidnapped between August and December 2018.
Two Nigerian suspects are standing trial over the kidnapping of the girls.
Meanwhile, the families of the missing girls say they do not believe that their relatives are dead.
Kate Quayeson, an elderly sister of Ruthlove Quayeson; the second girl who was kidnapped told Empire News’ Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan that they do not trust in the outcome of the operation carried out by the police describing it as a diversionary tactic.
Mr Francis Bentum, father of Priscilla Blessing Bentum the first girl to be kidnapped also told Ohene-Gyan that after visiting the crime scene Friday evening about 8:30pm after the Police left, he concluded that the human remains could not have been kept in the septic tank.
