A seasoned party organiser with decades of grassroots service is positioning himself as the candidate to steady the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region, following a stretch of election losses and internal friction that has left sections of the party’s base uneasy.
Dr. Moses K. Atinga, who is contesting for the position of Regional Chairman, is campaigning on the argument that the party’s problems are structural, not just political and that rebuilding trust with grassroots members must come before the party can compete seriously again at the polls.
Atinga’s case for the chairmanship rests heavily on his record inside the party’s own structures. He has served two terms as Assembly Member for the Zorko-Gambrongo Electoral Area in the Bongo District, one term as Bongo Constituency Treasurer, two terms as Bongo Constituency Secretary, and previously held the position of Regional First Vice Chairman.
Supporters argue that this range of roles spanning grassroots representation, constituency finance, party administration, and regional leadership — gives him a working knowledge of the party’s machinery that few rivals can match.
Party members familiar with his style describe him as approachable and consultative, with a reputation for listening to concerns and building consensus rather than dictating decisions from the top.
That temperament, allies say, has helped him build goodwill across different factions within the region’s NPP base.
Central to Atinga’s pitch is what he calls the Tripod Strategy, a three-part plan built around human resource and infrastructure development, stronger public communication, and a renewed focus on winning elections.
On organisation, Atinga is proposing to invest more heavily in training and developing party officers at every level from polling station executives up through electoral area coordinators, constituency officers and regional leadership thh the aim of building a party that stays active between elections rather than mobilising only when campaign season arrives.
On communication, he is pushing for the party to speak with a more unified and proactive voice, arguing that NPP communicators need better training and support to explain the party’s record and policies clearly to voters, rather than spending most of their energy responding to political opponents.
On elections, his plan calls for a constituency-by-constituency review of recent NPP performance in the region, paired with targeted strategies for voter engagement, youth and women’s mobilisation, and closer monitoring of polling-station-level trends an approach he frames as replacing hope with preparation.
Atinga has also made unity a central theme of his campaign, arguing that internal divisions have done as much damage to the party’s fortunes in the region as the opposition has.
His message to party members is that supporters of rival candidates in past contests should still have a role in the party going forward, and that the NPP’s rebuilding effort cannot succeed if it excludes any wing of its membership.
He has additionally emphasised bringing younger members more directly into party organisation and leadership roles, rather than limiting their involvement to campaign-season mobilisation describing a future NPP structure where experienced hands mentor younger members while drawing on their energy and ideas.
Atinga’s supporters are framing the contest as more than a leadership vote as a decision about what kind of party the Upper East NPP wants to become: unified or fractured, organised year-round or active only at election time, and proactive in its messaging or constantly on the back foot.
Whether that argument resonates with delegates will become clear as the race for the Upper East chairmanship moves toward its conclusion.
