The Volta Regional Health Directorate has confirmed the arrest of one of its drivers, Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, over the alleged unlawful possession of suspected narcotic substances.
The arrest occurred on Friday, January 23, 2026, after an official vehicle belonging to the Directorate, with registration number GV 2460-14, was intercepted and taken to the Regional Police Headquarters in Ho.
The vehicle was reportedly carrying items suspected to be narcotic drugs, described by some sources as Indian hemp.
In a statement, the Directorate said its attention was drawn to reports circulating online about the incident and sought to clarify the situation.
According to the Directorate, information about the arrest was first received by its Transport Unit, after which management took immediate steps to verify the claims.
While police investigations continue, the Directorate says it has begun its own internal processes to address the matter.
“While the Ghana Police Service continues with its investigations, the Regional Health Directorate has also initiated processes to constitute a Committee of Enquiry to independently investigate the incident,” the statement added.
The Directorate further disclosed that additional measures are being introduced to prevent a recurrence.
Reaffirming its stance, the Directorate stressed its commitment to ethical standards in public service delivery.
“The Volta Regional Health Directorate remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and professionalism in the delivery of health services,” the statement added.
