A suspected armed robber, Kwabena Tetteh, 20, has been shot by a retired Soldier at Pontoase a surburb of  Okorase near Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

The suspect who was in the company of two others was shot on the neck by the 70-year-old retired Soldier, Stephen Bediako when they attempted to rob him on Friday June 22, 2018 at about 1:30am.

The armed robbers broke to the Hall of the house and when they broke the second door in attempt to enter into his bedroom, the old Soldier fired his garden gun and injured the suspect on the neck.

Sensing danger, the other accomplices helped their injured colleague to flee.

The Police Patrol team which arrived later at the scene together with residents in the area mounted a manhunt  for the suspect in which the injured armed robber was found abandoned by his accomplices in a pool of blood at a place known as Abaase in the community

He was arrested by the Police and rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua where he is currently receiving treatment under Police guard.

Information gathered indicates that, the suspect is in a critical condition and has since not been able to speak.

A hammer was retrieved by the Patrol team at the crime scene.

The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed the arrest to Starr News when contacted adding that investigations are ongoing to arrest the other accomplices.

The Eastern Regional Police Command has revised its night patrol duties with deployment of more Police Personnel to communities in the New Juaben Municipality to protect lives and properties following a surge in armed robbery cases in the municipality.

Many Police personnel were on Tuesday evening spotted being deployed after a parade held at the Regional Police Headquarters.

This follows an emergency meeting held between a high powered delegation by the Inspector General of Police and the Regional Police Command, District commanders and some Detectives over the rise in armed robbery cases in the Municipality.

The spate of armed robbery cases recorded this year in the New Juaben Municipality have created a sense of insecurity among residents blaming Police of doing little.
