The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will begin receiving nominations from prospective candidates for the Akwatia parliamentary by-election from Monday, August 11 to Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Chairperson of the Commission, Mrs Jean Mensa, the nominations will be received at the Denkyembour District Office between 9:00am and 12:00pm, and 2:00pm to 5:00pm on each of the three days.
The by-election follows the death of the Member of Parliament for the Akwatia Constituency, Hon. Ernest Kumi, which has rendered the seat vacant in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the 1992 Constitution.
Aspiring candidates are required to download nomination forms from the Commission’s website, starting July 30 until August 13, 2025. Completed forms must be submitted in quadruplicate and endorsed by two registered voters in the constituency as proposer and seconder, along with the support of 18 additional registered voters.
Each form must also bear the candidate’s consent to the nomination and be accompanied by two bust-sized photographs with a red background showing the full face and ears.
