The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has issued a stern warning to headteachers across Ghana against denying admission to students who have been officially placed in their schools or demanding unauthorized fees.
Speaking at the 32nd Annual Conference of Directors of Education in Sunyani in the Bono Region, the Minister expressed concern over reports that some school heads are obstructing the enrollment of first-year students and extorting money from parents and guardians.
Mr. Iddrisu emphasized that such actions are unacceptable and contradict the government’s commitment to providing free and quality education to every Ghanaian child.
He reiterated that all students assigned to schools through the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) must be admitted without discrimination or demands for fees beyond the approved charges.
The Education Minister further stressed that the Ministry will enforce strict discipline and hold any offending headteacher accountable through established administrative and legal measures.
He called on Directors of Education to enhance oversight and ensure full compliance with Ministry guidelines, aiming to guarantee a smooth and transparent enrollment process for all first-year students nationwide.
