The Ministry of Education has announced a major curriculum reform initiative aimed at reintroducing Art, Craft, and Needlework into the curriculum for foundational learners across the country starting from the next academic year.
Education Minister, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, made the announcement during an engagement with Home Economics teachers in the Eastern Region, emphasizing that the policy is part of broader government efforts to enhance foundational learning and equip young learners with practical and creative skills.
“We believe that a holistic education goes beyond core academic subjects,” Minister Iddrisu said. “By reintroducing Art, Craft, and Needlework, we are providing our youngest learners with the tools to develop their creative skills, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for our cultural heritage.”
According to the Minister, the reintroduction of these subjects is intended to support well-rounded development and ensure students gain not only literacy and numeracy skills, but also vital creative and practical abilities. The move, he noted, reflects the government’s commitment to preparing children for a future that values innovation, craftsmanship, and applied knowledge.
The Ministry will work closely with educators and key stakeholders to facilitate the nationwide implementation of the updated curriculum in schools.
This initiative is expected to inspire more engaging learning experiences while reinforcing the cultural and creative identity of Ghanaian students.
