Adansi group backs former Obuasi East MP Edward Ennin to revive NPP’s electoral strength in Ashanti Region.

A group calling itself the “Rescue Ashanti NPP with Adansi Movement” has publicly endorsed former Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Edward Ennin, for the position of Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Addressing the media, the group representing six constituencies within the Adansi enclave expressed concern over what it described as a decline in the party’s electoral strength in the Ashanti Region, traditionally considered the NPP’s stronghold.

According to the statement, recent election results indicate a weakening of the party’s base, particularly in the Adansi area, where three out of six constituencies Adansi Akrofuom, Adansi Asokwa, and New Edubiase were lost to the opposition.

The group also highlighted the narrow retention of the Obuasi East seat by a margin of just 19 votes in the 2024 elections as a sign of growing vulnerability.

The movement noted that the Adansi bloc remains a critical voting area capable of influencing the party’s fortunes, but argued that its potential has not been fully utilized in recent years.

The group described Edward Ennin as a capable and experienced leader with a strong track record, pointing to his tenure as MP for the Obuasi Constituency from 2004 to 2012 and later Obuasi East, during which they say he helped secure significant votes for the party.

It also cited his relationship with traditional authorities within the Asante Kingdom as an asset that could help unify the party and rebuild grassroots support.

Additionally, the group suggested that Mr. Ennin’s leadership could help reconnect the party with long-standing members and key figures who have become less active since the era of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

The group emphasized that its call is driven by a desire for unity and renewal rather than division, urging party delegates and stakeholders to support what it described as a strategic move to restore the party’s dominance in the Ashanti Region.

“The time to act is now,” the statement concluded, stressing that the future of the NPP in the region depends on decisive leadership and collective action.
