Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Vice Presidential Candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has described anyone in the Ashanti Region who votes for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 2024 general elections as a “nation wrecker.”
He claimed that such voters do not wish the country well, citing what he described as the NDC’s neglect of the region during its time in government.
Addressing supporters after a health walk in the Manhyia South Constituency, the outgoing Member of Parliament appealed to the electorate to vote massively for the NPP, stressing that the December 7 polls are crucial for the party’s future. “After the 2024 elections, if you vote for Dr. Prempeh to become Vice President and Dr. Baffour Awuah as MP for Manhyia South, there will be no election in Ghana again because the NPP will rule forever,” he declared.
He further accused the NDC of failing the Ashanti Region, alleging that their policies, particularly the capitation under the National Health Insurance Scheme, harmed the people of the region.
The former Energy Minister also referenced a past statement from a former NDC President about the region’s loyalty, claiming it reflects the party’s disregard for Ashanti’s development.
Justin Frimpong Koduah, NPP’s General Secretary, urged party supporters to ensure a high voter turnout in the region to secure the party’s victory and continue major development projects such as the Boankra Inland Port and Suame Interchange.
Dr. Baffour Awuah, the party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Manhyia South, added that Dr. Prempeh’s role in the successful implementation of the Free Senior High School program had significantly benefited the region, making him deserving of the party’s continued support.
