The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition says the fourth generation unit at the Akosombo Dam has been successfully restored, marking another step in efforts to stabilise Ghana’s electricity supply following recent disruptions in the sector.
The development was announced in a Facebook post by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, who said the restoration came shortly after the third unit was also brought back into operation.
He noted that the progress reflects ongoing efforts to rebuild generation capacity affected after a fire incident at the Akosombo Dam.
“At 9:9.09pm, the fourth unit at Akosombo Dam was successfully brought into operation an encouraging step that strengthens power generation and reflect the dedication and expertise of the team behind the effort,” Dr. Jinapor wrote.
According to him, the latest restoration signals a gradual easing of supply constraints, with authorities working to ensure stable electricity supply to households, businesses and industries.
He added that engineers and technical teams have been working continuously under demanding conditions to restore damaged infrastructure and bring additional units back online.
