Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Grace Akosua Amoabeng, has accused government of shifting blame instead of taking responsibility for challenges in the energy sector.
Speaking on GHToday on GHOne TV, she said the government’s communication on the energy sector reflects a lack of transparency and responsibility in addressing the country’s power challenges.
“This government is trying to push blames on people but they’re not trying to take responsibility of whatever is going on in the energy sector,” she said.
Madam Amoabeng also called for clarity on the utilisation of the D-Levy, which was introduced to help address energy sector debts.
She questioned how much has been generated from the levy and how those funds have been applied.
“We know they are taking D-Levy, we don’t know how much they’ve received, what they’ve used the money for,” she stated, adding that there is limited public information on debt payments made with the proceeds.
She further raised concerns about continued debts within the energy sector, including payments owed to fuel suppliers, arguing that the situation raises questions about the effectiveness of the levy.
The NPP communicator also urged government to properly implement existing energy sector recovery strategies, stressing that stable electricity supply is critical for businesses and young entrepreneurs.

“If it is a plan that’s supposed to help the energy sector work better, I think they should use it,” she said.
She maintained that consistent power supply remains essential for economic activity, particularly for small businesses dependent on electricity for operations.
