The Member of Parliament for the Walewale, Dr. Abdul-Kabiru Tiah Mahama, says critics of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who have distanced themselves from its internal structures no longer possess the authority to influence decisions within the party.
His comments come amid tensions following a warning by veteran politician Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe that he and other founding members could exit the party if the NPP proceeds with moves to expel Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng over alleged anti-party conduct.
The party’s position follows remarks made by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng during an interview on Monday, January 12, in which he described the NPP as a “fake party” and indicated that he no longer considers himself a member.
Speaking on The Verdict with Isaac Addae on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Dr. Tiah Mahama said many of the party’s most vocal critics were once delegates but have weakened their influence through their own actions.
“Most of them were delegates,” he said. “But by the actions they have taken, they have forfeited their membership. Now, their only platform is radio, and they have no real decision-making power.”
According to the Walewale MP, withdrawing from the party’s internal decision-making structures inevitably diminishes one’s relevance, regardless of public visibility or media presence.
He stressed that real political influence within the NPP is rooted in active participation and engagement in party processes, insisting that commentary from outside the party cannot drive meaningful change.
