The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has launched investigations into the inappropriate conduct of some soldiers during a recent operation involving journalists at Spintex in Accra.
The move follows a directive from the Presidency after reports emerged of an altercation between soldiers and members of the media on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
In a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations, the GAF confirmed that it is treating the matter with seriousness and has assured the public that the investigations will be thorough and transparent.
“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to inform the general public that investigations have begun into the inappropriate conduct of some soldiers during an encounter with some journalists around Spintex in Accra,” the statement said.
The Armed Forces further stated that all those found culpable will be dealt with accordingly. “The Armed Forces remains professional and will do everything possible to maintain its known high standards,” it added.
The incident under investigation reportedly occurred during a demolition operation at a warehouse said to be linked to businessman Daniel McKorley, also known as McDan.
Government has condemned the soldier’s conduct during the operation, describing the attempted arrest of JoyNews reporter Carlos Calony and the alleged assault of an eyewitness as “completely unacceptable.”

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) also expressed deep concern over the assault and arrest of Carlos Calony and his cameraman, Jonas Dodzi Voegborlo, by National Security operatives. Calony was reportedly detained at the National Security Head Office in Accra following the incident.
The GAF’s probe adds to growing calls for accountability, with media rights organisations urging swift action to uphold press freedom and human dignity.
