The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has condemned a viral video showing a man assaulting a woman, believed to be his wife, and outlined steps for public reporting and justice.
In a statement dated Monday, November 17, 2025, the Ministry said, “No individual has the right to subject another person to any form of abuse under any circumstances. We strongly condemn this barbaric act in its strongest terms. This act infringes on the victims’ rights, and it’s highly punishable by law.”
The Ministry confirmed that it had reached out to the Ghana Police Service to ensure a thorough investigation.
According to the Gender Ministry, domestic and sexual-based violence remains a national concern, and the Ministry urged the public to report incidents promptly.
“We reaffirm our commitment to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders in ensuring that perpetrators of domestic violence face the full rigors of the law,” the Ministry said.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested the suspect, John Odartey Lamptey, at his residence in Ofankor, Ga East Municipality following widespread public outrage over the video, which sparked calls for swift action and justice.
However, the Police say a search is underway to locate the victim, who fled the residence before officers arrived, to ensure her safety and provide the necessary support.
