The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that it will address comments made by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation during Tuesday’s press briefing, but only after the Black Stars complete their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Mali.
This comes in the wake of Sports Minister Kofi Adams’ disclosure of budget adjustments for the qualifiers, including cuts to some expenditure items.
In a statement released on September 2, the GFA emphasized that its immediate focus is on rallying national support for the Black Stars as they prepare for two crucial fixtures in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“As the custodian of Ghana football, the GFA will, in due course, provide clarifications to the issues raised,” the statement noted. “At this moment, however, we believe the national interest is best served by maintaining full concentration on the task ahead; the decisive qualifiers against Chad on September 4 and Mali on September 8.”
The Association also called on Ghanaians to stand firmly behind the team, stressing that unity and commitment remain the Black Stars’ greatest assets.
Ghana will face Chad on Thursday, September 4 before returning home to host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, two matches seen as pivotal to securing a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
