The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced a significant enhancement in Ghana’s natural gas supply, effective Sunday, July 13, 2025. The upgrade, spearheaded by ENI, will see a 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) increase in gas supply, raising the national total to 270 MMscfd.
In a press release dated July 9, the Ministry described the development as a strategic move to strengthen Ghana’s energy infrastructure and improve the reliability of energy supply across the country.
To enable the upgrade, ENI will temporarily suspend its gas export operations. According to the Ministry, the temporary measure is crucial to optimising the supply chain and ensuring the successful execution of the supply increase. However, the suspension is expected to impact gas availability for power generation during the period.
The Ministry noted that it has collaborated with key stakeholders in the power sector to implement comprehensive measures aimed at mitigating any potential disruptions. These include enhanced monitoring of power generation and contingency plans to minimise the impact on power supply.
“We are confident that these proactive steps will effectively manage the transition and maintain a stable power supply for all citizens,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring a stable and sustainable energy future and thanked the public and stakeholders for their cooperation during the period of enhancement.
