President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana has officially joined the Partnership for Information and Democracy, reaffirming the country’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and open governance.
He made the announcement during his address at the closing ceremony of the High-Level International Conference on Information Integrity and Independent Media in Paris, France, attended by world leaders, media experts, and civil society representatives.
President Mahama said the decision had been formally communicated through diplomatic channels, describing it as a clear message to the international community that Ghana remains steadfast in advancing the frontiers of freedom and democracy.
“Ghana has formally decided to assume full membership in the Partnership for Information and Democracy. This decision has been officially communicated through the appropriate diplomatic channels, affirming Ghana’s unwavering commitment to the principles of transparency, accountability, and open governance,” he stated.

He added that the move underscores Ghana’s leadership role in promoting good governance and defending truth in an era threatened by misinformation and disinformation.
President Mahama noted that the global fight against disinformation requires sustained and collective effort, calling for stronger cooperation among governments, civil society, and the media to safeguard the integrity of information.

The conference, hosted by the International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM), the Forum on Information and Democracy (FID), and the Republic of France, concluded with the endorsement of the Paris Declaration on Multilateral Action for Information Integrity and Independent Media.
