The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) will mark its 75th anniversary with a special commemorative lecture today, Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 4:00 PM. The event will be held at Adaekese Hall, Homowo Conference Centre, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, Accra.
The lecture, themed “75 Years of Excellence in Journalism: Honouring the Past, Embracing the Present, and Shaping the Future,” will focus on the evolution of journalism and its future. A key sub-theme, “AI and the Future of Journalism,” will explore the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the media landscape.
GJA President Albert Dwumfour will host the event, with Mrs. Baaba Cofie, Acting Dean of the School of Communication Studies at Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, serving as chairperson.
Special guest Fatimatu Abubakar, Minister of Information, will be in attendance. The event will also feature keynote addresses from Omar Faruk Osman, President of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ), Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, IT Expert and General Manager of External Communications at ECG, and Ethel Cofie, Founder and CEO of Edel Technology Consulting.
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), which was established in 1949, is now the main association for journalists in Ghana. It is one of numerous organisations on the National Media Commission board and is registered as a professional association. Through its work, GJA aims to uphold greater professional standards, support and uphold press freedom, and foster a sense of camaraderie among Ghanaian journalists and with journalists worldwide. In order to achieve these goals, GJA hosts lectures, seminars, workshops, and educational programs on topics pertinent to the expansion and development of the media.
