Strategic government interventions are playing a key role in boosting Ghana’s tourism revenue, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, Deputy CEO of Marketing and Special Duties at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has revealed.
Speaking on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy on Starr 103.5 FM on Saturday, November 6, 2025, Abeiku Santana highlighted initiatives including airline negotiations and engagements with the U.S. government as central to increasing tourism receipts.
“For the past 13 years, there was no direct flight from Accra to Atlanta. By the grace of God and under the leadership of His Excellency President John Rahmani Mahama and Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, we have been back-door negotiating with the U.S. government. For the first time, we are getting direct flights from Atlanta to Accra,” Abeiku Santana said.
He explained that the direct flights will reduce travel time and lower the cost of travel, benefiting both tourists and the Ghanaian economy.
Abeiku Santana also noted that Ghana has been spared from restrictive U.S. immigration policies that have affected other African countries, a move he described as crucial given the significance of American inbound tourism.
“These are strategic interventions that government is taking which are giving us numbers to improve our tourism revenue and receipts,” he added.
