President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has expressed profound appreciation to corporate partners, sponsors, and government institutions whose support made the successful organization of this year’s GJA Media Awards possible.

Speaking at the ceremony held in Manhyia Palace Kumasi, Mr. Dwumfour singled out the KGL Group of Companies and its Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Alex Dadey, for their exceptional sponsorship and long-standing partnership with the Association.

“Your Majesty, Your Excellency, the full day and the overture of our joy today have been made largely possible by the kind sponsorship of Mr. Alex Dadey and the KGL Group. Their generous support has made this event possible,” he said.

The GJA President also acknowledged the continuous contributions of Wisnot Group, noting that for the past four years, the company has provided invaluable assistance to the Association’s programs and initiatives.

He extended similar gratitude to several partners including NHI, Copy Ghana, Old Mutual, Turkish Airlines, the Ministry of National Security, Marshall City, the Ghana Police Service, Stanley, and E-Law, for their roles in supporting the awards and broader GJA activities.

29 Journalists and Seven Media Houses Honoured

This year’s awards recognized 29 journalists for outstanding work in various categories, while seven media houses received institutional awards for excellence in news programming and public service journalism.

The Turkish Embassy and Turkish Airlines jointly sponsored a fully funded international trip for the top three award winners — the Journalist of the Year, the Best Investigative Journalist, and the Student Journalist of the Year.

The GJA President congratulated all award recipients, describing them as “torchbearers of excellence, ethics, and professionalism in Ghanaian journalism.”

The 2025 GJA Media Awards was held under the theme, “Self-Guarding Ghana: The Role of the Media in Promoting Security and Peace.”

Mr. Dwumfour explained that the theme was inspired by the media’s critical role in safeguarding national security, curbing illegal small-scale mining (galamsey), and fostering sustainable peace.

“The media’s responsibility extends beyond informing the public — it also includes protecting national interests, promoting peace, and supporting efforts against illegal mining,” he said.

He emphasized that development cannot thrive in the absence of peace, and urged journalists to adopt conflict-sensitive reporting practices that promote unity and stability.

“Peace is an essential commodity that cannot be bought cheaply. As journalists, we must use our platforms to build bridges, not barriers,” he stated.

The GJA President also commended the Ministry of National Security and other security agencies for their cooperation in addressing threats such as terrorism, illegal mining, and misinformation.

He reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to maintaining high professional standards and protecting press freedom while promoting responsible journalism.

“We believe the media must continue to champion peace, development, and environmental sustainability,” Mr. Dwumfour concluded.

The GJA Media Awards is the flagship event of the Ghana Journalists Association, recognizing excellence, professionalism, and ethical standards in the practice of journalism across the country.
